PSS New Jersey recently held its first Charity Golf Tournament in conjunction with the SynCure Cancer Research Foundation, with funds raised going toward cancer research at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York.

This first-year event included a golf outing at Crestmont Country Club in West Orange, N.J., along with raffles, prizes and a silent auction of sports memorabilia. The event was supported by many of PSSí key vendors and was co-chaired by Dan Denenberg of PSS and Steve Roman of SynCure.

Dr. Murray F. Brennan, chairman of the Department of Surgery at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, was honored at the event. Brennan has been recognized throughout the national and international medical communities as a preeminent surgical oncologist, educator and administrator. In 2000, he received the American College of Surgeonís highest honor, The Distinguished Service Award. In honor of Brennan, the SynCure Cancer Foundation and PSS donated about $40,000 of the funds raised as a research grant to Sloan-Kettering.

Denenberg, a PSS sales rep, took the leadership role in organizing this event, but he had lots of help and support from Scott Helfrich of PSS corporate, and Jeff Plumb, Greg Priola and Debbie Halma, all of PSS New Jersey, to name just a few. The tournament and dinner served as testimony to the community involvement and good works being done by so many distributors in the industry. PSS New Jersey looks forward to a second annual event next year.
