HIDA reports that more than 4,000 attendees visited Chicago’s Navy Pier for HIDA’s annual MedSurg Conference & Expo.

First AMS Class Graduates

Making its official debut at HIDA 2002 was the ADVANCE core curriculum and Master’s modules. Seventeen sales professionals earned their Accredited in Medical Sales (AMS) certification, which entitles them to use the AMS logos on their business cards and other professional materials. They will receive an AMS marketing kit from HIDA to promote their accreditation and commitment to comprehensive medical sales training to their customers. Thos earning certification were Drew Borske of Midland Medical Supply, Dennis Clock of Clock Medical Supply, Katie Harmon of Kreisers Inc., Monte Herrmann of Kreisers Inc., Dave Holle of Midland Medical Supply, Corwin Jensen of Midland Medical Supply, Heather Llorca of Darby Drug Co., Janet McCrea of AMP, Robert Greg Myers of Midland Medical Supply, Ray Pearson of Kreisers Inc., Shelley Pomeroy of Kreisers Inc., Chris Roberts of Professional Hospital Supply, Ron Roehl of Kreisers Inc., Andrea Salisbury of Midland Medical Supply, Diane Simpson of ADCO, Wayne Stombaugh of Kreisers Inc., and Jeff Warren of Kreisers Inc.

Al Wicks Wins HIDA’s Highest Honor

Al Wicks, president of C&S Medical Supply Inc., won this year’s Industry Award of Distinction. This annual award is the highest honor that HIDA bestows upon an individual, recognizing not only their contributions to the association, but also their influence and leadership in the distribution industry. Wicks has served as chairman on the HIDA Board of Directors, the HIDA Educational Foundation Board of Directors, the HIDA Physician Advisory Council, and has been an active member of the association for many years.

Wheeler Accepts Excellence in Sales Award

Jim Wheeler of Seneca Medical won this year’s Excellence in Sales Award, presented jointly by Repertoire and HIDA. (See October 2002 Repertoire.) The Excellence in Sales Award is given each year to a top sales producer with exceptional high-volume achievement, product knowledge, innovation in selling, strategic selling, team orientation, customer references, and contributions to the industry.

Rhatigan Awards Recognize Manufacturers

Recognizing exceptional marketing materials created by suppliers and manufacturers in the medical products distribution industry, the annual Frank M. Rhatigan awards were presented at the MedSurg Conference & Expo on Sunday, October 13. Congratulations to Quidel, winner of the Rhatigan Award for marketing and selling data sheet; Donovan Industries, winner for catalogs; American Diagnostic Corporation, winner for price lists; and Precision Dynamics Corporation, winner for UPN/bar coding. Congratulations also to Professional Disposables Inc., Honorable Mention winner for marketing and selling data sheet, Solon Manufacturing, Honorable Mention winner for catalogs, and Precision Dynamics, Honorable Mention winner for price lists.

Pickell Awards Recognize Best Booths

Recognizing exceptional and engaging booths at the HIDA MedSurg Conference & Expo, the Pickell awards are selected by distribution attendees and presented to exhibitors at the show. Congratulations to Spacelabs Medical, winner of the Pickell Award for best island booth; Kimberly-Clark, winner for most engaging booth; Midmark, winner for most innovative booth; amdx, winner for best first time exhibit; BD, winner for best multiple booth; Western Medical, winner for best single booth; and I-Many, winner for best supply chain booth. Congratulations also to First Quality and Mabis, Honorable Mention winners for island booths, and Adenna, Honorable Mention for single booth.

Bleier, Sayers Add Flavor to Proceedings

Football legends Gale Sayers and Rocky Bleier both participated in HIDA 2002 programs, with Bleier offering the keynote address at the Chairman’s Industry Lunch and Sayers signing autographs and taking pictures with anxious attendees at the amdx booth as part of the 100 Spiffs for HIDA’s 100th Year program. In his speech, Bleier compared business challenges to those he faced personally as he struggled with crippling leg injuries to come back and play four Super Bowls with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Meanwhile, Sayers gave away 2 tickets to a Monday Night Football game in Miami, FL, courtesy of amdx as part of their spiff promotion offered exclusively to HIDA 2002 attendees.

Next year’s MedSurg Conference & Expo will be held October 2-4, 2003, in Baltimore, MD.
