The Palm Tree Group Promotes Spina
The Palm Tree Group announced the promotion of Michael Spina to President of the organization. Spina joined The Palm Tree Group in June as Vice President of Business Development. In his new responsibility, Spina will continue to work closely with the three business units, Optimal, Invatec and Miami International and oversee the growth and strategic development of the parent company.
Spina has over 27 years of experience in the healthcare industry. He most recently served as Managing Director of the ABCO Dealers, Inc. Other previous responsibilities include operational positions with American Hospital Supply and President of Southern Surgical Supply.
Chairman and CEO, Mark Wallis states, "In the few short months he has been on-board, Mike has brought about positive change and increased awareness of The Palm Tree Group's services. He will be instrumental in our mission to drive costs out of the supply chain by providing solutions to overstock inventory.
Quidel Appoints Donald J. Lovre as Corporate Accounts Manager
Quidel Corporation announced the appointment of Donald J. Lovre to the newly created position of corporate accounts manager.
In this position, Lovre will be responsible for expanding on the success of the Company's domestic sales through strengthened relationships with key U.S. distributor partners. He will focus on the continued growth of diagnostic test sales in all product areas, including respiratory diseases, infectious diseases, urinalysis products, reproductive health products, bone health products and autoimmune and complement products.
Lovre will report to Jana Quinn, Quidel's director of corporate accounts. Lovre joins Quidel after 16 years at Beckman Coulter/SmithKline Diagnostics, where he held several key positions, including regional sales manager and national healthcare manager. While at Beckman, he had responsibility for increasing purchases and outsales of disposable diagnostic tests to distributors, and attained the highest disposable diagnostics business with one of their largest distributors.
Additionally, he was responsible for marketing diagnostic tests to national managed care organizations, national reference labs, Department of Defense military hospitals and negotiating contracts with group purchasing organizations. He managed, hired and trained sales representatives, maintained the third largest sales volume territory, was responsible for independent distributor purchases, and implemented national marketing programs.

Cardinal Health Inc. Names Sari Macrie Senior Vice President
Cardinal Health Inc named Sari Macrie to the newly created position of Senior Vice President, Corporate Communications, effective immediately. She was previously a consultant to Cardinal, as well as to various other Fortune 100 companies. Novoste Corp (Norcross, GA) named Alfred Novak as President, Chief Executive Officer and a member of the board of directors.
He replaces William Hawkins on the board and Thomas Weldon as CEO. Weldon will remain Chairman of the Board. National Distribution & Contracting Inc named Bob Davison as Managing Director for the iLABS Independent Laboratory Dealers organization. He has over 21 years of experience in the research laboratory supply industry, most recently having served as Vice President/Sales Manager for BVAScientific. iLABS has 21 members across the United States and Canada, and accounts for approximately $67 million in total sales. McKesson Corp (San Francisco, CA) named Jayant H. Shukla PhD as Vice-President of McKesson BioService's pharmaceutical services division (Rockville, MD). He was previously Director, Clinical Supplies, Informatics, and Scale-Up at Bristol Myers Squibb Pharmaceutical Company (New York, NY). David R. Carlucci was named as President and Chief Operating Officer of IMS Health (Fairfield, CT). He was previously General Manager of IBM Americas. Carlucci will report directly to David M. Thomas, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.
