HIDA Announces Second Annual Executive Business Exchange
Edition: May 2002 - Vol 10 Number 05The Executive Business Exchange provides a rare opportunity for distributors to communicate their needs, enabling manufacturers to better understand common problems and to improve the delivery of medical products to providers.
The Health Industry Distributors Association (HIDA) will host the second annual Executive Business Exchange at the HIDA 2002 MedSurg Conference and Expo. The event, to be held on Saturday, October 12 at the Hyatt Regency Chicago, is a reverse trade show that gives HIDA member distributors the exclusive opportunity to meet with leading manufacturing executives, all of whom are HIDA Educational Foundation Associate exhibitors at HIDA 2002. In addition, the Executive Business Exchange provides a rare opportunity for distributors to communicate their needs, enabling manufacturers to better understand common problems and to improve the delivery of medical products to providers.
In order to participate in the program, up to 45 HIDA member distributors can contract with the association to staff a table with key executives and decision-makers from within the company. Participation is free to contracting distributors attending HIDA 2002; all other distributors will be charged $199 per person to attend. At the event, distributor executives will have the opportunity to form profitable new business relationships and to learn the latest product information as manufacturing executives rotate between the various tables.
This four-hour pre-conference event is particularly important to HIDA and HIDA's membership because it fulfills one of the association's key strategic goals: enhancing communications between distributors and medical/surgical product manufacturers. With improved communications within the supply chain, manufacturers and distributors improve their ability to understand and to highlight the key selling points of specific medical products as well as to understand the value of distribution. Further, this forum of open dialogue enables supply chain partners to cultivate fruitful business relationships that take advantage of both parties' strengths in delivering quality services to the customer.
''HIDA's Executive Business Exchange is a communication opportunity for manufacturers and distributors, and that is certainly needed,'' says Bob Pugliesi, Miltex Executive Vice President, Sales and Marketing. ''The Exchange is filled with top distribution management -- all under one roof -- giving Miltex the opportunity to talk about strategy and to review current accounts in one afternoon. We should work to do more of these types of activities in the future.''
Likewise, Midmark President Anne Eiting-Klamar stresses that HIDA's Executive Business Exchange enables the efficient and productive use of one's time at the annual HIDA trade show. ''We [manufacturers] had an opportunity to meet with the distributors in a way that made so much sense we're all at the show, so we should be working together. The HIDA Executive Business Exchange really promotes the concept of distributors and manufacturers working together by providing an opportunity for us talk in a time-efficient and relaxed setting.''
Pugliesi concurs, noting that ''there's so much going on at the show, making it difficult to have intimate or top-line discussions. The Executive Business Exchange is our chance to talk strategy without all the distractions of the crowds, the booth, the new products.''
Also an opportunity for distributors, Kern Surgical Vice President of Sales and Marketing Randy Stader says the HIDA Executive Business Exchange is a ''key event'' for his company each year. ''The Executive Business Exchange allows us to focus, listen, and learn how to deliver value to our vendors,'' says Stader. In addition, Stader says the top-level discussions held at the Exchange enable Kern Surgical to strengthen important business relationships and to enter into new and profitable strategic partnerships with manufacturers.
''American Medical Depot participated in last year's Executive Business Exchange, and we found the program to be an exceptional value,'' says Akhil Agrawal, President and CEO of American Medical Depot, Chair of the HIDA Trade Show Advisory Committee, and Chair-Elect of the HIDA Board of Directors. ''We were able to address real business concerns with our top manufacturing partners, and we are already planning to attend again in 2002. The fact that decision makers were readily available to have meaningful dialogue saved in an incredible time during the rest of the show.''
