Beverly Launches CERES Strategies: Huckelbury to Run It
Beverly Enterprises, Inc., announced the creation of a new subsidiary, CERES Strategies, Inc., which will operate a web-based procurement management system that will be marketed to long term care facilities outside the Beverly network, according to Bobby Stephens, Executive Vice President for Beverly. Lisa Huckelbury, who serves as the senior director of procurement has been named to head the operation of CERES.
CERES brings an innovative approach to long term care purchasing that not only allows customers to enjoy the same mass-purchasing power of Beverly, but also is significantly different from a group purchasing organization (GPO). Certainly, one of the most important advantages of CERES is that it will reduce a facility's overall procurement costs by 10, 15 even 20 percent or more Huckelbury said.
According to Huckelbury, the new management company, name CERES for the Greek goddess of renewal, is the offspring of the BEACH electronic purchasing system developed for use in its own facilites. Like BEACH, CERES, is a web-based e-commerce system that allows instantaneous 'point-and-click-' ordering from an online catalog of over 85,000 items. All that is needed to get started is a computer with Internet access. Orders are routed through CERES to pre-qualified vendors who drop-ship to the institution and invoice CERES, which pays them directly. CERES receives all vendor purchases and consolidates them on one invoice to the customer either electronically or manually.
